Education & training

Aware of its role in society, the CFB has for many years been committed to providing additional training to students in the field of oncology and radiotherapy for medical, nursing, and support professions.

Initial medical and scientific training

Within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM Uni Luxembourg), a radiation oncologist with university qualifications has been appointed to coordinate the teaching of radiation physics applied to medicine, the biological basis of cancer (Bachelor's degree) and certain courses in the DES (postgraduate diploma) in oncology. (Bachelor of Medicine (BMED), Bachelor of Life Sciences (BASV) and DES in Oncology).

Continuing medical education

The CFB medical team participates in continuing medical education for general practitioners and specialists in Luxembourg and internationally, including (but not limited to):

  • Inter-University Diploma in Sarcoma (DIU) with the Curie Institute Target audience: around 20 French oncologists (doctors, radiotherapists, surgeons)
  • International Sarcoma Masterclass (Morocco) Target audience: around 50 Moroccan oncologists (doctors, radiotherapists, surgeons)
  • Continuing education for Moroccan radiotherapists in stereotactic radiotherapy: prostate, digestive, lung, and neuro
  • Seminar on "The role of general practitioners in dealing with the side effects of radiotherapy" organized with Uni Lu and the Radiation Protection Division of MiSA, with plans to extend it to specialists.
Interprofessional training through research

This is a continuing education program for medical technical assistants (MTAs), quality assurance specialists, and radiation therapists. Together with its peers from universities in the Greater Region, the CFB has developed a new transdisciplinary training program at the European level as part of an INTERREG project (https://www.nhl-chirex.eu/fr/) (Prof. Vogin – international coordinator).

Several innovative approaches are being implemented:

  • Training on a virtual particle accelerator simulator with Liège and Nancy
  • Serious game for quality methodology (CFB)
  • Platform for contouring organs at risk (CFB)
  • Training in multimodal imaging (Homburg)
  • Radiovigilance application (CFB)
Initial theoretical training in ATM-RX (Technical High School for Health Professionals) – Bachelor's degree in TIM (UniLu)

Several CFB professions are involved in this type of training: doctors, physicists, clinical research assistants, ATM.

Teaching administrative and support functions

Work-study training for students Professional Aptitude Diploma (DAP) in administration and secretarial work.

Supervision of MD and PhD theses

CFB university staff participate in the supervision of work and on thesis and doctoral examination boards in France, Belgium, and even internationally.

Supervision of interns

Internship supervision is the responsibility of department heads, teams, or a person designated by management.

Internship tutor training may be provided.

For doctors (assistants/MEVS/interns), the CFB welcomes students for periods of 6-12 months under the supervision of a supervisor approved by the Ministry of Health and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation as part of specialized medical studies at the University of Luxembourg.

Theoretical and practical teaching is organized in 3-month blocks:

  • Breast + ENT + Thorax + Lymphoma + CNS
  • Urology + Gynaecology + Digestive + Metastases
