How do I get to my treatment?

Radiotherapy is a repetitive medical treatment that will require a number of trips to and from the CFB; the CNS will cover the cost of transportation such as taxis, ambulances, and personal transportation.

Can I drive?

Your doctor will advise you whether you can drive or fly, depending on your state of health.

Can I continue working?

Your ability to work during your treatment will depend on various factors, such as : the recommendations of the medical team treating you, the type of cancer and its stage, the type of treatment you will be receiving and its side effects, your general condition and personal choices, your type of work, your company's policy on daily allowances, sick leave, and health at work. Ask your doctor, occupational physician, or CNS doctor, or other organizations such as Fondation Cancer.

Will I feel tired during radiation therapy?

This is one of the most common symptoms, but it can be overcome with a few small exercises every day, at your own pace. Talk to your doctor about this.

Can I exercise during treatment?

During and after treatment, physical activity is encouraged, taking into account your physical condition, and contributes to your mental and emotional well-being. Only your doctor is qualified to advise you on the sports you can do.

If you are allowed to go swimming, remember to rinse yourself thoroughly with clean water.

Am I radioactive during my treatment?

No, radiotherapy treatment does not make you radioactive. You can interact with your loved ones as normal. However, certain precautions must be taken in the case of brachytherapy for prostate cancer.

What should I eat during treatment?

It is recommended that you eat healthily and stay well hydrated. At the CFB, you can get advice from a dietitian. She will develop a program tailored to your needs.

Why do I need tattoo marks on my skin?

These tattoo marks allow us to reposition you every day.

What products can I use to wash myself?

Avoid soaps and products containing alcohol. Instead, use shower oils. Avoid using perfume or shaving in the irradiated area during treatment.

Can I expose myself to the sun?

Do not expose the irradiated skin to the sun during your treatment.

It is advisable not to sunbathe without protection for the first year after radiotherapy. A high-factor sunscreen is essential.

Does radiation cause hair loss?

If radiation is administered to the scalp, it can cause gradual hair loss, usually after 2 to 3 weeks.

The dose administered determines whether hair loss is temporary or permanent. In the first case, the hair, whose color may change, begins to grow back about two months after the end of treatment.

Can I dye my hair?

If you are being treated on your head, you may lose your hair. If your hair is weakened by the treatments, it is recommended that you do not weaken it further with a perm or aggressive coloring.
If you are undergoing chemotherapy at the same time, talk to your doctor.

Can I remove hair?

It is not recommended to remove hair from the treatment area. Elsewhere, you can use your usual hair removal method. If in doubt, ask your doctor for advice.

Men being treated for an ENT condition should use an electric razor to shave.
